Lake
Janus Along the Pacific Crest Trail
This
trek via Smith Brook Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail to Lake Janus is
a moderate hike with varying changes of trail surface. From forest
floor to granite stone and boulders. The trail weaves itself up
to Union Gap at your maximum elevation of 4703 feet. From Smith
Brook Trail you follow the Pacific Crest Trail Northbound and descend
to your lowest elevation of about 4062 feet. From this point you gently
ascend and cross through some nice meadows prior to reaching
Janus Lake. Three and a half miles latter you have assessed the
Lake shore. Which is accessible all around the lake, even though you
may have to trek through some marshy areas. Along the trail you
will be blessed with vistas of rising mountains and tree lined
valleys. Also a couple large granite boulder slides. Link
