Welcome to the home page of Dave and John Davenport-Wilkinson! This site is about family, friends, and connectedness.

We believe in the freedom of lesbian/gay couples to marry. We're co-founders of The Legal Marriage Alliance of Washington.

We occasionally hear from people who don't think we deserve to be called a "family." We believe that families define themselves. People who are commited to the hard work, communication, compromise, and long-term growth of living and loving together deserve to be treated fairly and equally.

About our family:

John is 58, Dave is 55; we've been life-partners for 35 years. We were married (temporarily, until Oregon voters passed a constitutional amendment that unmarried us) in Portland, Oregon on March 26, 2004—34 years, 2 days, and two blocks from where we met at Centenary Wilbur Methodist Church. We live in north Seattle, Washington, with our two cats, Pete and Sam. We've planted an Autumn Flame maple tree in our front yard to commemorate our 20th anniversary, and to symbolize the growing strength of our relationship over time. We moved from San Francisco to Seattle in 1987 when handling John's mother's health problems from a distance became increasingly difficult. Dave quit his job and John transferred with Kodak to make the move. That's what families do for each other.

Yes, we're still in love after all these years.

[Picture of The Bug.]Rusty (The Bug) died from a brain tumor on October 22, 2005. He's sorely missed.
