Art/Photography/Galleries/Museums
This is my most-visited sub-page, which is interesting because of the probability that
many visitors will have arrived via my listing on various lesbian/gay-related web pages.
I'll attempt to keep this page up to date, due to its amazing popularity.
Please note that the most recent entries will be found at the end of the list.
I urge you to visit the general lesbian/gay and lesbian/gay marriage sub-pages, as well.
Please send suggestions for additional links to me at jwilk@eskimo.com.
Enjoy!

of Photography
- Provocative and intelligent presentation of the photograph as art. What first attracted
my admiration was this intelligent treatment of the photography of Edward Weston and
Robert Mapplethorpe: "Weston's Nude Floating, 1939, an image of a woman floating face
up in a swimming pool, with Mapplethorpe's Thomas, 1986, an image of a nude man tautly
posed in a square structure. Here, the modern, formal analysis usually applied to Weston's
work expands to embrace postmodern themes rooted in societal relationships, gender, race,
and sexuality. Likewise, Mapplethorpe's work examined next to Weston's invites the viewer
to look beyond the lingering NEA controversy and see the image for its formal complexities
in the tradition of modernist photography. In both cases the comparisons serve to more
firmly ground the artists' work in 20th century art practice."
- Art on the Net
- "Art on the Net is a collective of artists helping each other to come up on the
Internet and share their works on the World Wide Web. Artists create and maintain studios
and rooms in the gallery where they show their works and share about themselves. ...
Currently we have 65 artists at our site who are from around the world so our site is
international. We have poets, musicians, painters, sculptors, digital artists, performance
artists, animators and much more. We are always open to adding artists in new areas."
