Be aware that you will be "roughing it" at over 7000' altitude. Think about bringing a tent, warm sleeping bag, coat, flashlight, cup, bowl, eating utensils, sunscreen, drums and other musical instruments. If you plan to stay for the work-party, bring work boots and gloves, and any tools you might need to use or possible let others use. Also, any tipis, trailers, yurts, large tents, generators, etc., would be tremendously useful!
We ask for a donation of $8 per day for those staying for a short time. Obviously, starting-up a new sanctuary is a huge cost, so any other donations will be most graciously accepted! For those of you staying and helping with the construction, we ask for a donation of $100 a month to cover food costs. No one (especially laborers!) will be turned away for lack of funds.
Please try to let us know when you will be coming, how long you will be staying, and what skills you can offer (ie: cooking, labor, foreman, circle facilitation, First Aid, etc.).
June thru September, contact David Littlefoot Balsam @ NMFC, PO Box 553, El Prado, NM 87529 (505) 776-1565 or e-mail dbalsam@prodigy.com. Donations are warmly appreciated.

MAYA, (6/96): a band that includes Peter Horta and Garrin Benfield of the John Body Players, has relocated to San Francisco! MAYA plays all original cathartic dance music -- it ranges from fast and funky, dark and multi-layered, to disorienting and polyrythmic, quiet and acoustic. The band is currently scheduling gigs to begin August 1 (that is, if we don't play the Oregon Country Fair, July 12, 13,14--will know about that soon) We like playing clubs, but we love playing parties. If you're interested in setting up an event, or know of one that MAYA should be involved in, call GARRIN at 931-9561. Please call this number to request a tape. GIGS: Sat. August 3, Cafe International, Haight & Fillmore. Sat. August 10, Brainwash Cafe, Folsom. See you soon!
Primordial Tricksters (5/96): Wishing to meet several queer male performance artists, dancers, actors and spiritual seekers who are interested in uncovering and exploring personal issues of identity, gender, surrender, control, personal sovereignty, internalized homophobia and authentic response for mutual artistic and spiritual growth. To this end, we will be playing with Drag, Genderfuck, B&D, S&M, Paganism and other aspects of both the queer and universal experience, emphasizing respectful exploration and/or transcendence of personal boundaries. I imagine us being as a group of quantum-time berdaches (Native American queer/trans shaman) entering the hidden parts of ourselves and each other through drumming, journal work, meditation, journeys into the wild and a conscious effort to be vulnerable and open to deep interpersonal contact. The emphasis will be placed upon the process of connecting in this way, on the journey, rather than upon "performing" for an "audience," though what we discover here can only strengthen our performance capabilities in other arenas. We will, of course, be open to public performance/rituals when we feel the time is right. Willingness to share physical contact, confront fears and dig into the psyche are essential. Monthly circle in east Bay. Contact Bloobird @ 415-585-8273.
