On Summer Solstice, Friday, June 21, 1996, come participate in the birthing
of the new Faerie Sanctuary near Zuni, New Mexico. Ancient Indian ceremony
will mix with faerie magic to create a truly blessed event. Following the
ceremony, an all-summer long-and-into-the-fall work party will commence,
where our goal is to raise our main community building, pottery studio and
first residence building. We will be using natural materials including
adobe and straw-bale. Councils and community circles will be held
throughout the summer. Come be a part of this historic event!
Be aware that you will be "roughing it" at over 7000' altitude. Think about
bringing a tent, warm sleeping bag, coat, flashlight, cup, bowl, eating
utensils, sunscreen, drums and other musical instruments. If you plan to
stay for the work-party, bring work boots and gloves, and any tools you
might need to use or possible let others use. Also, any tipis, trailers,
yurts, large tents, generators, etc., would be tremendously useful!
We ask for a donation of $8 per day for those staying for a short time.
Obviously, starting-up a new sanctuary is a huge cost, so any other
donations will be most graciously accepted! For those of you staying and
helping with the construction, we ask for a donation of $100 a month to
cover food costs. No one (especially laborers!) will be turned away for
lack of funds.
Please try to let us know when you will be coming, how long you will be
staying, and what skills you can offer (ie: cooking, labor, foreman, circle
facilitation, First Aid, etc.).
Directions: It is 50 miles from ZMS to either Grants or Gallup so you can
enter from either direction. From the west, take Interstate Highway 40 to
State Highway 602 (south). Hang a left onto State Highway 53 (east). When
you pass Ramah (about 12 miles), you will be near the turn-off to ZMS.
One-tenth of a mile east of mile marker 40, hang a left onto the dirt road.
Follow this dirt road past the striped rock formations (Los Gigantes). A
little after Los Gigantes take the left fork onto a gravel road. Stay on
this gravel road heading toward the mountain. Take a left at one more fork.
Look for the signs featuring a triangle with a "Z" in the center. From the
East, take I-40 onto State 53 at Grants. When you pass El Morro National
Monument to the south, you will be near the 40 mile marker described above
There is AMTRAK (and air) service to Gallup. If you need a ride from
Gallup, it can be arranged in advance by contacting ZMS, who will pick up
groups of visitors at scheduled times to limit the need for repeat trips to
and from the city.
Hope you can make it! Peace
