The outage of virtual domains between midnight and about 1am on 2/18/99
was the result of a directory used for logs for one of the domains being
deleted.
Apache, if it can't open a log file, because in this case the directory in
which it resides does not exist, aborts and fails to start up.
At midnight, Apache is re-started to rotate logs. Midnight came and
Apache failed to restart. I did not notice it until about five after when a
cron job that checks it attempted to restart it and failed, and it took me
another hour or so to understand what the nature of the problem was and correct
it.
