Eskimo Outages ~4am Sunday 9/12
The outage this morning was caused by an abusive user who fired off a
fork bomb.
This is a program which simply forks copies of itself, and the children
fork copies of themselves and so on, as fast as it can. In this case it was
sufficiently fast that I couldn't kill them as fast as they were forking even
using skill -9 in a while true loop so I was left with no option except to
reboot the system.
