We are having some problems with authentication this evening on the
56k dial-up service. Earlier, around 5:00pm pacific time, the password
database in the authentication server got corrupted. That was fixed by
about 6pm, but then around 7:30pm it started failing to authenticate again.
I changed one password and then all of the passwords that were failing
started authenticating again. I don't know what caused this or why changing
one password fixed it. There may have been some intermittant networking
problem affecting communications to the authentication server but since it's
not presently in a failed state I can't determine where.
