I apologize for the problems this morning; this was directly related to
operator brain death. I've been trying to troubleshoot a problem where the nfs
daemon dies; making the log files unavailable.
This started after an upgrade to Linux version 2.2.13 and some changes to
kernel parameters. Yesterday, I backed out the new kernel, put it back to
2.2.10, which has previously been stable. The nfs daemon still died during the
night; so this morning I changed the kernel parameters back, typed in a message
to reboot the machine; and then got distracted with other things. The system
did not shutdown all the way and boot properly.
It should be back now with everything back to the old parameters.
