The main web server crashed with an OOPs in the swapper today. This
eventually affected the virtual domain server.
I've done what I can here to remove dependencies between the two, however,
some of you have HTML links from your web site into the ftp space. That is
creating a dependency that eventually ties up an Apache process and hangs the
server.
I've made some changes this morning that I HOPE will cause http requests
to error out when the file system is unavailable rather than hanging until it
is. However, you can eliminate this dependency by NOT placing web pages in
your /usr/ftp directory, they should all be in your public_html or adult_html
directories.
If you link to your ftp directory, it should be an FTP link, in the form
of:
<a href="ftp://ftp.eskimo.com/path"> or <a
href="ftp://ftp.virtual.com/path", and NOT html. This will cause it to be
served by the ftp server and not hang an Apache process.
