Our news server damaged the /var/spool/news file system today and decided
it was out of space when it was 78% full and stopped processing news. I
suspect this was caused by a power glitch as the power has been really bad,
although that machine is usually pretty immune.
It's running a file system check now to fix inconsistancies in the file
system but this is about a 2 hour process owing to the 180GB size of the file
system and the large number of inodes, and this assumes everything is
successfully fixed on the first pass which is not guaranteed.
There isn't anything I can do to speed up this process. It will be back
on-line as soon as we can get the file system cleaned up.
