Inetd, a master daemon that listens to various ports and then launches
the service programs to service them, died on mx2 which is one of the pop-3
          servers.

The result was pop-3 would fail to respond about 50% of the time. This
happened sometime between about 5am-8am this morning. It has been restarted.
