This affects only MegaPOP locations, and it's difficult to see which are
affected, as it works/fails to the same numbers at that same times this
evening. UUNet lines are not affected by this.
Many users are having a problem similar to what I called in ito technicians
briefly earlier this evening (and appeared resolved during that call). In
Seattle-based POPs (both Seattle and Tacoma reported to us, verified it
happening on Bellevue as well), and L.A. POPs (Alamitos, Long Beach, Rancho
Santa Fe), users that should be verifying are being rejected with (from a
text session just now):
% Authentication failed.
This is getting through on occasion but also failing on occasion. Multiple
attempts may be fail, fail, authenticate, fail, authenticate, fail, etc.
Will continue checking my own connection tonight on the Seattle/Everett
area numbers; but this appears just after similar routing/authentication
from other areas that were being worked on over the weekend. I had noticed
Seattle was briefly affected during that work as well (which has since been
reported as resolved), but it may have been this "off and on" problem.
