We will be taking the news server down briefly at approximately 10:45 PM Pacific time tonight in order to vacuum out ventilation screens. In the past when this machine has gotten flakey, overheating due to the vents being clogged with dust has usually been the cause. Later after that I will need to reboot the main file server in order for it to see the tape drive connected to it. When it exploded the other day, I replaced it with a machine with wide SCSI (amoung other improvements), the old machine had a narrow SCSI controller. The cable I had for the tape drive no longer fit. I obtained a cable today and it's physically connected but needs a reboot for Linux to see the tape drive. This will cause an interruption of web traffic, e-mail access, shell file access, and ftp access for approximately 5 minutes at around 11PM tonight.
