Non Technical: The news server is down and will require about 3-4 hours of maintenance activity before it will be available again. Technical: The SCSI bus that the news spool drives are on hung. It appears one of the drives got in a hung state as a power cycle of the drives was necessary to free the bus. Because this happened while the file system was active, damage to the file system resulted and an fsck is in progress to return the file system to a coherent state before the machine can resume processing news. This generally takes 3-4 hours IF it succeeds in the first pass, occasionally multiple passes are required.
