     The news server is presently down because of the need to lock out some
bad disk blocks.

     Doing this requires running a file system check program in a mode that
checks for bad blocks and then locks them out.  Then another pass duplicates
the contents onto good blocks and corrects any errors in the file system.

     Because the news spool is a large stripped partition this takes many hours
to complete and as a result the news server will not be available for news
access or processing for probably the rest of today.

     The UUCP functions of the machine are up and running so UUCP customers
depending upon it to receive and send e-mail will be able to do so.
