Web Server Outage


     The web server outage today was caused by a bug in Linux that causes it
to stop allocating any CPU to user processes while the kernel remains alive.

     I've seen this happen maybe three times in a decade where you can still
ping the machine and get a response but no terminal sessions or anything else
respond.
