Description: a consortium of 7 large
foundations with combined
assets of $21 billion and substantial investments in shares of oil
and gas corporations other than Exxon Mobil. The primary funder of
the key attack group in the anti-Exxon Mobil campaign,
Texas Fund for
Energy and Environmental Education.
In their own words:
"The Energy Foundation was launched in 1991 by The John D.
and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation (assets
$4.1 billion), The Pew Charitable Trusts
(assets $2.8 billion),
and The Rockefeller Foundation (assets $3.1
billion). The Joyce Mertz-Gilmore Foundation
(assets $124.9 million) joined as a funding partner in 1996, and The McKnight Foundation
(assets $1.9 billion) joined in 1998. In 1999, The David and Lucile Packard Foundation
(assets $6.2 billion) joined to support two programs: the U.S. Clean Energy Program and
the China Sustainable Energy Program. In 2001,
the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation (assets $2.7 billion)
joined the Energy Foundation." (asset amounts added)
The Energy
Foundation's constituent foundations own substantial stock in oil &
gas companies other than Exxon Mobil. Figures show 1) name of stock;
followed by 2) number of shares owned; followed by 3) fair market value.
