Now for those of you who are AIRS here is some history The family name

of Ayres originated at the Battle of Hastings, 1066 AD in England.

The first of this family was a man named Truelove. He was one of

the followers of William the Conqueror.

I have a number of EYRE'S in my Mother's line and they go back to England

with the family story about how a TRUELOVE after action on a

battlefield, was knighted and given the name of EYRE, because he was

able to rescue the King and give him AIR by removing his stuck visor.

My Own mother had come across a similar tail in a book in the 50's including

the crest that I copied. The story she had was the distant relative had given

up his leg to protect the king and so there is this leg upon the crest

Moms line was " typical Eyrse .. not a leg to stand on..".
