Alaska MTNA Competitions
MTNA Student Performance Competitions are three-tiered, beginning at the state level for Junior (age 11-14), Senior (age 15-18), Senior Duet (new for 2007-2008 competitions),
Young Artist (age 19-26), and Chamber Music (average age 18-26).
State winners and representatives then compete at the division level, and division winners and representatives become the national finalists.
In states where there is only one entrant in a particular level and category, the student does not compete at the state level, but is automatically advanced as " State Representative " to compete in the appropriate division competition. Likewise, if there is only one entrant in a division level and category, that student is automatically advanced as a national finalist, representing the division.
Student performance competitions at all levels are open to the public.
In the Elementary (age 5-10), Junior, Senior, and Young Artist Composition Competitions, the student compositions are judged by mail at the state, division and national levels. The National Winning compositions of the MTNA Student Composition Competitions are performed at the MTNA National Conference.
