Mini-Studies on my Surname
for piano solo
[2:07]

Indexing our alphabet numerically in mod 12 and flagging the letters 'A-R-M-S-T-R-O-N-G' against this index, one sees each 3rd character as redundant and the unique members reduced to six:

A    R    S    T    O    N
0    5    6    7    2    1

with corresponding intervals

5   1    1   -5   -1 .

This interval series, however, when expanded by a factor of 5 and slightly transposed, yields exactly the member indices just omitted:

10  11   4    9    8    3   .

Combining then the two series (with index 0 assigned to D#) as follows

D# G# A  Bb  F  E     C# D  G  C  B  F# ,

I have fashioned this movement briefly addressing several favorite pianistic concerns, and named its three sections accordingly:
      For Memory
      For Legato
      For Mirroring
