During the last week of October, my boyfriend's house was
pilfered. In the process, his brother's wallet was stolen. Ramon lost
$1750.00 in that robbery. This was all his savings from working here in
Washington, USA in the apple and pear orchards. Ramon is an undocumented
worker and without proper identification could not open a bank account.
The majority of the Mexican workers here carry all their money in their
wallets. Ramon is no exception, except he was robbed. Police reports
have been made, but his money is long gone.
The tragedy is that he had planned to use this money to
visit his parents
in Nayarit, Mexico during the no-work season to reunite with them for the
first time in three years. His parents are devastated that now neither of
their sons will be visiting. Ramon is disappointed and worried about how
he will survive the winter here. He has already sold his truck to take
care of rent and food since the work here is just about done.
If you would like to contribute any amount, he and I will
be grateful. He
doesn't know I'm going to these lengths to recoup his money, but I feel it
is the spirit of Thanksgiving to do so. As of today, November 23, I have
raised over $300 by selling tamales and through donations. I need your
help to raise the rest.
Please consider helping a stranger today. Maybe tomorrow a stranger will
help you when you need it. We will, of
course, send you a thank you note signed by Ramon if your donation is not
anonymous. Thank you for your support.
