I have purchased a 217R preamp, used as you can imagine. Excellent piece of gear, with a great deal of possible adjustments for vinyl replay. There is a -relatively simply made- manual with it. In adition I have foud an old test report from the german magazine Hi-Fi-Stereophonie, where Karl Breh played the Ayatollah of measuring and checking against the DIN standard. The 217 and the 219 equalizer get pretty good grades. They were tested against a similar dynaco combo.
The only criticized item was the lack of channel separation on the 217 preamp. Well, mine is a 217R and it must have been corrected on it: The imaging is excellent. Very good dynamics, no noise.
