In the late 19th century there were few places to cross the Colorado River, Lees Ferry was the Northern most crossing. Located approximately 25 river miles from present day Glen Canyon Dam, Lees Ferry was the only crossing for another 250 river miles. Soon after this crossing are the beginnings of the hell fire rapids of the Colorado river.
