Around 11pm winds picked up out of the east and the temprature dropped. We now have 6 inches of drifting snow/blowing snow, with a layer of ice on top of it from freezing rain, it has now gone back to heavy snow with some sleet mixed in here and there. So much for their prediction if it warming above freezing by midnight.

*Special*
Winter Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather service of Seattle for the entire western washington region. 1-3 inches possible starting Wednesday night through Thursday. Accumulations are not exact, due to the unpredictability of how long it will take for the northern marine air of this next system to move in. They do know it will stop precipitating before tempratures rise above freezing. Lows tonight are expected to hit single digits.

As I was driving up Hwy 522 from Shoreline today, going accross the Snohomish River the temp reading in my car was 10ºF. In Shoreline it was 16ºF at around 8:30pm It was 20.3ºF when I pulled into my driveway at 10pm.

All roads are solid ice. Sand helps but only in spots.

Winter Storm Warning

At 6:45pm the national weather service issued a winter storm warning for North King County and Snohomish County due to a convergance zone developing. 3-5 inches additional tonight and another 2-3 tomorrow.

new forcast

They finally issued a new forcast. Aparently a convergance zone is developing and now 4-8 inches of snow is possible in the puget sound convergance zone, Northern King County and Snohomish County is included in that. Between now and tomorrow morning.

todays snow storm update

Snow is falling heavy now, theres over an inch on the ground, it's the real heavy wet stuff. Tree limbs can be heard breaking left and right outside at any given time. Power has been flickering as well. This is in shoreline, Washington. Trees are very weighed down right now.

Significant lowland snow

Today the forcast was the typical of a snow event, snow and rain mixed showers.

Well it of course turned all the way to snow, they orginally predicited it wouldn't until the bulk of the moisture was over us later tonight. Well I'm sure now the predicted 1-2 inches will be more like 4-6 inches. It's snowing hard now for the past 20 minutes and already a trace is on the ground down here in Shoreline, Washington.

In Goldbar, it snowed all night but did not stick. There was a trace in spots. Wind was gusting at about 40-50 mph however. Temprature is hovering around 30-34 degrees right now and all night. I will post more updates as this storm progresses.

Late entry but it's here none the less...

November 6th, 2006 we had a pineapple express storm system move through, one of the most intense types of it's kind. It dumped over 10 inches of rain in the mountains, it was so warm that almost all precipitation in the mountains was rain. The Skykomish River in Goldbar crested at a record shattering 23.94 feet. Previous record was set on November 24th, 1990 at 22.49 feet.

Today, we have a seris of pacific storms moving in bringing high winds to the entire region and large amounts of snow in the mountains. theres 3 feet of snow up there now and another foot to two feet is expected by tomorrow noon.

I am still in the process of settling in at my new place and should be able to start daily updates again. Sometime in December I'll have a full weather station set up, they've come down alot in price over the past couple of years. It'll be a simple array with a anometer (records wind speed and direction) a rain gauge, berometer, humity and temprature as well.

Pacific Storm one after another...

We just had a warm pacific storm blow through dumping alot of rain and generating alot of winds.

Now we have a much more powerful storm blowing in, dumping 6 inches of rain in the lowlands and 10 inches or more in the mountains, Flood watches and Wind warnings are in effect. Heres what the national weather service statements are, I'm just saving them for records.

The Skykomish River that is in my backyard is currently at 10ft. Flood stage is 15 feet. It's predicted to reach 19 feet. Record is 22 feet set in 1990. If it gets up to 23 feet I'm flooded. I hear Hwy 2 gets closed in Sultan at 21 feet. I'll be watching this storm very closely.
