Blogger removing FTP

Blogger has decided to do away with the ftp ability. This makes it so I can no longer have the weather blog hosted on my website, and things will no longer work together as they have the past 4 years. I will have to seek an alternative method of posting updates and such for weather related stuff. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know, thanks!

server issues part 3

Still having continued problems with the server, as the machine keeps running and logging data, but the network stops talking, and requires a reboot to begin talking again. I removed some things, anti-virus program has been changed to see if that is the cause. Time will tell.

Hardware issues with the weather station computer

After many reboots and attempts to fix the network in it's weird state of no longer communicating to the outside world, except if it's a ping, I finally tore apart the machine and installed a replacement network card. The machine was down for about an hour and a half. Data was only sparodically collected during this time frame, however no measureable precipitation was recorded during the down time.

We'll see how long it lasts now with a new net card.

Outage, only effecting uploads.

The weather station is still logging data as always, but something has been buggy with the ftp program uploader lately, it likes to stop working around 3:45 am for some reason now the past 2 days. I didn't get over there to fix it today so I'll get it back up tomorrow evening. All data over the past few days will upload once I get it up again. I believe you can still find it on weather underground however, that part should still be working.

The cold snap of December 2009

Had a lot of cold temperatures this month comparative to last December. On December 8th, 2009, we had a low of 14 degrees F, at 4:52am local time. The high this day was 28.4F at 2:32pm local time. The average temperature for this day was 20.7F!

Last December (2008) Our coldest day was December 20th, 2008, with a low temperature of 13.3F at 8:25am local time. The high that day was 24.1F at 11:56pm local time. That day's average temperature was 19.9F.

This December isn't over yet, I suspect this is not the last of our cold air bursts this season. Unlike last year however, this cold artic air did not have any moisture involved, we had a flurry of snow and a dusting on the street the night of December 5th, 2009. I photographed a picture of 7th Ave NE in Shoreline near the weather station on the morning of December 6th, with the dusting of snow still present.

Cold Snap, and more publicity.

Sorry, no pictures right now, I haven't found a frozen lake yet. But yes, it's cold. We finally got just barely past the freezing mark today for about an hour and a half.

Also, I have a link on the Shoreline Area News site/blog, I am one of the two weather stations they have linked there.

Will post more later, this winter's posts will probably be not as frequent due to personal time restraints right now.

Power outage that lasted several hours

Today at about 3:30pm the power transformer supplying power to the weather station lost all of it's oil and blew the fuse on the utility poll. Took Seattle City Light until about 7:15pm to get the transformer replaced and restore power. The backup battery powered the weather station and the computer running it until 4:30pm. All weather data between 4:30pm and 7:15pm was never collected. No measurable precipitation fell during this time frame.

Outage 07-31-2009

Friday morning at about 5:45am the weather station stopped sending data to the server. This is a known bug on the Oregon Scientific WMR100A's, I hear if I find a WMR200 receiver it corrects the problem. Anyway, at about 4:15pm I was able to get to the receiver and reset it. Everything is back to normal now. All data between 5:45am and 4:15pm was lost as it was never recorded. No measurable precipitation during this time frame.
