June 1-14 GREECE AND TURKEY
Weather in early June? Lovely! We're definitely into swimsuits all day now (and all night too, if you felt so inclined). Temperatures will be around 80-85F, that beautiful constant-blue-skies Mediterranean sunshine guaranteed. The summer breezes will have filled in now, winds around 20-25 knots on average.
Our rendezvous for this
trip is in the stunningly beautiful little port of Keci Buku in Turkey; a little gem of a
place, tucked well away from the main tourist masses. Happily, it's also only a quick 30min
ride from the main town of Marmaris, THE major tourist centreon this coast, and so close
to all the conveniences of airports/easy transport, etc. We'll spend the first week
of this trip exploring the many bays and backwaters of theTurkish coastline; tiny,
one-family-taverna bays, a beautiful National Park anchorage,(where we have our own
barbeque); to the lively, bustling little town of Datca, a great spot to dance the night
away! Speaking of which... there is also an extremely entertaining night in Bozburun, where
we have found our own little SeaScape hideout, and a wonderful host family who put on a
belly-dancing evening! All are later encouraged to join in and learn how to wobble their
midriffs too... :) The second week will see us
heading north to Greece, to visit some of our favourite little Greek island spots. We'll enter
Greece via the main town of Kos; a busy and very touristy town. We stay just long enough to
clear customs, and truly appreciate how lucky we are being on a yacht, not part of the
pilchards-on-the-beach package tour masses! :) - then head off into the "real" Greek islands.
Again, the contrast between
our ports of call is very marked... from touristville Kos to an experience of Pothia, the main
fishing port on Kalymnos - often equally busy and bustling - but with Greek fishing life and
ambiance, rather than MacDonalds! Then there are the smaller
places; the fjord-like Vathi where momma makes the best dolmades and swordfish in the aegean!
- the traditional blue-and-white and friendliness of Pandeli village; the tranquility of our
little paradise island, Marathi. We end on our home island of Leros.
