If you live in one of the developed countries of the Western World you have probably turned on your television at one time or another and seen a very dishonest looking person talking about a "rapture" where God was going to come back to earth and where the dishonest looking person and his (or her) friends were going to be taken up to heaven while all the rest of us were left behind on the earth.  When most of us see things like this on television (or read about things like this in a book about Bible Prophecy) we don't think too much about it because we know that there is no way that something like that is ever going to happen.  For one thing our knowledge of science makes us skeptical about people rising up into the sky and even if that was possible it is unlikely that a divine creature like God would only take the dishonest people up into a "rapture" and then leave everybody else behind.

But even though we know that something like this could never happen some of us are still concerned when we see a television show (or read a book) that talks about Bible Prophecy and a rapture where all of the dishonest people are taken up into heaven and where everyone else is left behind.  To understand why church people continue talking about a rapture when science tells us that this could never happen, it might be useful to see what would happen if one of the people who is a doubting Thomas could sit down and talk openly with a church leader about the rapture and Bible Prophecy.  If a doubting Thomas could sit down with a church leader and talk openly about these topics the conversation might go something like the following:  "Church Leader," asks the doubting Thomas, "people in the church have been preaching about the Antichrist (or the anti-Christian spirit) for over 200 years.  In every generation people in the church have believed that they were living in the last times and that the Christians would soon be attacked by an anti-Christian beast that would try to swallow them up.  They believed that when this happened they would have to resist the beast and that if they successfully resisted the beast, then instead of the beast devouring them and swallowing them up, the church people would swallow up the beast.  I know that you as a Church Leader in the world today who was raised with the same knowledge of science that I was raised with would probably have trouble picturing a situation where people started rising up into heaven and where they disappeared totally from the earth while everyone else was left behind."

"First of all, Thomas," replied the Church Leader, "I'd like to say that I will talk openly with you today but I want you to know that if you repeat anything that I say to another person, I will deny that our conversation ever took place. You are right in assuming that I do not believe that one morning the phones will be ringing off the hooks at police departments around the world with people reporting that their friends and relatives are missing and that later everyone will learn that a fairly large percentage of the people on earth have disappeared because they have been suddenly taken up to heaven in a rapture.  Thomas, what I'm about to say might not seem to fit in with our discussion about the rapture and Bible Prophecy but it is important.  Many people such as yourself who doubt the existence of spiritual forces are victims of something called spiritual slavery.  Those people such as yourself who are victims of spiritual slavery will often have other people deprive them of their spiritual energy early in life and also throughout their life.  One way that people make other people into their spiritual slaves is by doing something unfair to them or saying something unfair about them and then denying that they have done anything wrong.  When people make other people into spiritual slaves they will also blame them unfairly whenever something goes wrong."

"When a person becomes another person's spiritual slave, they end up absorbing the pressure that should be going to the person who has made them into their spiritual slave.  The individual who has been made into a spiritual slave will have to deal with not only the pressure in their own life but they also will have to absorb the pressure that is being directed towards the person who has made them into spiritual slave.  If they eventually, with insight into the nature of their situation, get some sort of psychological release where they no longer feel the need to absorb the pressure of the people who made them into a spiritual slave, they will notice very soon that they will have increased pressure put upon them by people who are upset that the person who made them into a spiritual slave is not happy about the new situation where they have to absorb the pressure that was previously absorbed for them by their spiritual slave.  The person who has been forced to become a spiritual slave might also be accused of being evil after they break free from their spiritual slavery.  The ones who have been using them as a spiritual slave might say that they are feeling increased negative spiritual energy coming into them and they might claim that the spiritually and psychologically vulnerable person is evil and has put a curse on them and that is why they are feeling increased negative spiritual energy coming into them.  Actually, they are just feeling the negative spiritual energy that the spiritually and psychologically vulnerable person had been absorbing for them through the years.  But being as the person who made the more vulnerable person into a spiritual slave is going through obvious spiritual and psychological pain as a result of what has occurred, it will appear to anyone observing the situation that the spiritually and psychologically vulnerable person probably has in fact put some sort of a curse on the other person.  The spiritual slave will now be cast in the role of an evil person and the person who had been a spiritual slave will be forced to go back into their old role where they were being forced to absorb the pressure that is being directed towards the person who had made the spiritually and psychologically vulnerable person into their spiritual slave."

"Thomas, it is very hard for people who use other people as their spiritual slaves to stop what they are doing and to set their spiritual slaves free.  Back in the 1800's many people were forced to give up their slaves.  This was hard for them because the slaves were a source of very inexpensive labor for them.  When they were forced to give up their slaves they had to start hiring people at the market rate for employees and that rate was much higher than what they previously had to pay to use slaves to do the work that needed to be done.  In the same way it is hard for people who have spiritual slaves to give up those spiritual slaves.  When they give up their spiritual slaves and are forced to deal with the pressures that the spiritual slave had previously been absorbing for them, they will find that their lives will start to become much more difficult for them.  Do you have any questions about what we've discussed so far, Thomas?"

"Actually, Church Leader", replied Thomas, "I think I understand and I think that I agree with a lot of what you've said.  It is true that people such as myself have become spiritual slaves against our wishes and that it is hard for us to break free from our spiritual slavery because of the side effects that occur when we start to break free (the major side effect being that the people who have been using us as spiritual slaves cannot handle the increased pressures that they feel when we start to break free from our spiritual slavery)".

"At first, Church Leader, I thought you might be getting a bit off topic when you started talking about spiritual slavery but I think I understand where  spiritual slavery fits into our original discussion about the rapture and Bible Prophecy.  I think it is clear to most people in the world that a lot of the people who use other people as their spiritual slaves refer to themselves as being Christians and refer to people who are spiritual slaves as being non-Christians.  So it could be argued that the people who serve as spiritual slaves have the spirit of the Antichrist because they are not Christians.  But many people question how this could be true because the Antichrist is supposed to be a powerful beast and people who serve as other people's spiritual slaves are not powerful people at all.  They are obviously not powerful and they have a lot of trouble succeeding in life because the spiritual energy that they need in order to succeed in life is constantly being drained out of them by the people who have made them into spiritual slaves."

"I think I understand where you are going with this analysis, Church Leader.  It seems to me that a lot of the people in the church today still hold on to the imperialistic ideas of the 1800s.  It also seems to me that the spiritual force that we call God is actually the combined spiritual energy of the people who say that they believe in God at this point in history.  When people in the church today pray to God they are picturing in their minds a "person" who was born into an upper middle class family in one of the developed countries of the world.  This "person", who represents the combined spiritual energy of the people in the developed countries of the world who claim to believe in God, had exchanges of spiritual energy with other people coming into them from their community early in life that cemented into their soul a firm belief in the idea that "you should not give a sucker an even break" and that you should make every effort you possibly can to break, crush, or destroy anybody who is a sucker and anybody who is weak.  But of course this "person" who the church people pray to always was and always is careful to give the impression to other people that they are kind and compassionate (they know that it is easier to trick other people if they do not see who you actually are).  This "person" who the church people picture as being God in their minds feels that it in order for them to maintain their wealth and to maintain their levels of spiritual energy, it is necessary for them to oppress and to trick other people (and this includes increasing their levels of spiritual energy by making other people into their personal spiritual slaves)."

"That's right, Thomas," said the Church Leader, "and the people who serve as spiritual slaves are afraid that the church people who use them as spiritual slaves (and the non church people who use them as spiritual slaves) are going to devour them (or swallow them up).  And the church people (and non-church people) who use other people as spiritual slaves are afraid that if their spiritual slaves gain their spiritual freedom then they (the people who had been using other people as spiritual slaves) will be devoured (or swallowed up) because they will no longer be able to handle the increased pressure they would feel if they were no longer allowed to use other people as their spiritual slaves."

"Thomas, this is hard for me to say because I am one of the people who uses other people as spiritual slaves.  It is becoming increasingly difficult for those of us in the church to talk about the Antichrist and the rapture because people are becoming increasingly aware that the people in the church who use spiritual slaves (and people who are not in the church who use spiritual slaves) are actually the bad guys and that the people who serve as spiritual slaves are actually the good guys.  If Christ were physically alive today he would probably be supportive of the people who church people label as having the spirit of the Antichrist and he would probably not be very supportive of the people in the church.  Most people in the church today know deep in their hearts that Christ would not approve of what happens when people who are spiritual slaves are continually denied their much needed freedom.  Many people in the church today look forward to a rapture that they believe will take place in the very near future.  They know that the people who serve as spiritual slaves have been under increasing amounts of pressure over the past few years as they have been denied in their attempts to break free from their spiritual slavery.  These spiritual slaves who have been trying to break free have been pushed further and further into their roles as spiritual slaves (causing them to lose more and more of their spiritual energy and forcing them to give more of their spiritual energy to the people who have made them into spiritual slaves).  The people in the church who gain power from these people who they use as spiritual slaves dream of a coming rapture where the spiritual slaves will finally stop fighting the roles they have been given as spiritual slaves and where they will be forced to give their slave masters even more of their spiritual energy than they have given them before.  Thomas, when you see a dishonest looking man or woman on television talking about the coming rapture, you might think that they are talking foolish or crazy.  They are not.  They really do believe (and they have good reason to believe) that a time is coming soon when their spiritual energy levels will rise to a higher level than their spiritual levels have ever been before.  And if you (and if people who are similar to you) are not careful, Thomas, the spiritual levels of those people who have made people such as yourself into their spiritual slaves will someday rise up to such a high level that they will feel like they are in heaven (or in a spiritual paradise) even though their physical bodies will still be here on this earth.  Thomas, if you want to break free from your spiritual slavery before the rapture that the church people are dreaming about comes (when you will be forced to give even more of your spiritual energy to the people who have made you into a spiritual slave), then you are going to have to, with insight, learn to understand that while the religious myths might not be true, the spiritual forces that those religious myths are based on are real."

"Thomas, it appears that cultures throughout the world will eventually move away from the old fashioned practice of using other people as spiritual slaves, but it will no doubt take some time for this change to take place.  In the meantime, it would be good for all of us, people such as you who serve as spiritual slaves and also people such as myself who use other people as their spiritual slaves, to keep trying to understand more about the nature of spiritual slavery.  The transition from the old way of doing things to whatever new order that may develop will probably be smoother if we can learn to understand more about the dynamics of the old fashioned practice of using other people as spiritual slaves."
