Teaching Philosophy

My goal is to enable you to use technology to aide your daily life.  I will be your guide to the
computer system.  How far you get is in your hands.  Think about riding a bike or driving
a car.  Did your instructor shift the gears for you or did the instructor held on the break paddle
when your car rolled back on a hill?  My function is to provide you with a myriad of resources
and skills.  Where as, your function is to master the resources and skills.

Education & Certification

Winter 1999 Course Spring 1999 Course Research & Projects

My current research is in the area of unified messaging.  In a truly unified messaging solution
a signal storage and administration is used.  Using today's technologies, voice mail, fax, and
email requires an administrator for each device.  In a unified messaging system, only one point
of administration is needed, thus one number will enable your reach.

Another area is natural speech processing.  Menu driven applications are limited.  The human
voice is a powerful instrument to interface with a computer program.  Using natural speech,
we will be able to command computers and appliances to perform daily tasks.
