Duo recital: Kim Pineda,
transverse flute, and
Jillon Stoppels Dupree,
harpsichord.
Sublime, virtuosic, cerebral, and philosophical music for flute and
harpsichord, together and separately. Two Seattle favorites combine their
talents and, well, need we say more?
Pineda and Dupree will play music of the high baroque and
the early classical periods, including works by Johann
Sebastian Bach, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, and Joseph
Boulonge, le Chevalier de St. George (1748-1799).
Well-known to Seattle early music audiences, Dupree and
Pineda have enjoyed playing together for more than a
decade. Most recently, the two appeared together with Jed
Wentz, Matthias Maute, and Margriet Tindemans on Baroque
Northwest's 2005 concert series.
Jillon Stoppels Dupree has received high acclaim for her
performances as a soloist and ensemble artist in London,
Amsterdam, New York, Boston, San Francisco, and Los
Angeles. In Seattle, she has given numerous recitals and
is founder and co-artistic director of Gallery Concerts.
A recipient of the prestigious National Endowment for
the Arts Solo Recitalists Grant, she was a prize winner
in the S.E.H.K.S. International Harpsichord Competition
in Washington, D.C., and a Finalist in Boston's Erwin
Bodky Competition.
Kim Pineda's virtuosity on both recorder and baroque
flute is widely recognized. He has performed in Canada
and Israel, and throughout the United States. Founder
and director of Baroque Northwest, he plays regularly
with other leading early music ensembles on the West
coast and in the Midwest. He has performed at the Boston,
Berkeley, Long Beach Bach, and Bloomington early music
festivals, Seattle's Bumbershoot Festival, and has
recorded on the Focus and Centaur labels, and has been
featured on the NPR programs Harmonia and Performance
Today.
