Kiwi, or kiwifruit, is actually a berry. We use it as a transition between the herb garden and the rhododendrons. It provides dense shade from a trellis, leading the visitor from the sunny herbs to the darker beds.
To grow kiwi, you need both a male and female plant if you want fruit.
Hardy kiwi is also available. The fruit are smaller--about the size of grapes--and have a smooth (edible) skin. A male of either kind is sufficient to pollinate both types of kiwi.
