One of the early plants of the garden keeps climbing for light.

A ten-foot mountain laurel (kalmia) from Appalachia. Mountain laurel was Bob Anderson's favorite plant, even though he had two rhododendron nurseries. He donated this plant, along with the daphnoides in the foreground, to the garden in 1967.
