Decision to deport activist an "hysterical over-reaction" Wednesday 9 July, 1997 (9:09am AEST) ----------------------------------------------- Shadow Immigration Minister Duncan Kerr says the Federal Government's decision to deport convicted terrorist Lorenzo Ervin is an hysterical over-reaction. The Government yesterday cancelled Mr Ervin's visa, on the grounds he is not of good character, and claims he misrepresented his past on his visa application. Mr Kerr says the Immigration Department's processing of Mr Ervin's application was a shambles. He told ABC Radio the Government has over-reacted in a heavy handed way. Mr Kerr says it is not normal policy to jail somebody like Mr Ervin unless there is a genuine feeling that they were a security risk to Australia.
