Government will not protest over deportation Monday 14 July, 1997 (6:57pm AEST) The Federal Government will not protest against Indonesia's decision to deport a Melbourne law professor on the weekend. Professor Spencer Zifcak wanted Foreign Minister Alexander Downer to take action, after he became the first member of the International Commission of Jurists to be refused entry to the country. But a spokesman for Mr Downer says the Government will not buy into the issue because it considers the deportation an internal immigration matter. Professor Zifcak intended to observe trials involving activitists charged with subversion against the Indonesian Government.
