Noisy protest against One Nation meeting Monday 14 July, 1997 (9:10pm AEST) More than 200 police have controlled a noisy, but violent-free protest against Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party at Werribee, south-west of Melbourne. Police with batons, some on horseback, private security guards and protest group marshalls have managed to control the crowd of up to 400 demonstrators. Meanwhile, some One Nation supporters have been locked out of the Werribee West Family Centre, which is packed with more than 100 people. Police have been forced to link arms to protect some Hanson supporters as they leave the meeting. Meanwhile, a nearby multi-cultural rally, protesting against the launch of the branch has ended peacefully.
