Vanstone denies bungling Ervin case Friday 18 July, 1997 (5:17pm AEST) ______________________________________________________________ Federal Employment Minister, Amanda Vanstone, denies she has bungled the case of visiting American activist Lorenzo Ervin. As Acting Immigration Minister, Senator Vanstone ordered the deportation of Mr Ervin because of concerns about the character of the former Black Panther. That order has been overturned by the High Court. Immigration Minister, Phillip Ruddock has cut short an overseas trip, sparking claims by the Opposition that he has returned to clear up the matter. Mr Ruddock says his return is not specifically related to Mr Ervin and Senator Vanstone says she handled the case properly. "Look, I'm perfectly satisfied with what we did in the Ervin matter," she said. "Mr Ruddock's back and if he choses to continue to reassess Mr Ervin's visa that's a matter for Mr Ruddock."
