About the Author

Hanny Lightfoot-Klein studied the topic of female genital circumcision during a six-year trek through Sudan, Kenya, and Egypt, during which time she lived with African families. An educator and family counselor, she is the author of numerous articles on the subject of female genital circumcision that have been published in scientific and popular publications in England, the United States, Germany, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. She is a member of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sex and the Association for Women in Psychology. Ms. Lightfoot-Klein received her MA in social psychology from the American University in Washington, DC.
