    Never Gore

    Once upon a midnight dreary, Al did ponder weak and weary
    Over many a quaint and curious vision of President Gore
    While he nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
    As of someone gently rapping, rapping at the White House door.
    " 'Tis some visitor, " he muttered, "tapping at my White House door
    Only this and nothing more."

    Open here he flung the door, and what awaited shocked Al Gore
    In there stood a deadly nemesis, one who always would persist
    Not the least of noise made he; not a minute stopped or stayed he;
    But with an air of exaltation, laid claim to Presidential nomination
    "Traitor!" said Al, "thing of evil, what you cause is gross upheaval!"
    "I will become President Gore . . .Stop your effort! I do implore!"
    Quoth G. Dubya, "Never Gore"

    "Be those words our sign of parting, let me be "Al shrieked upstarting
     "By the Heavens Pearly door -- by that God we both adore
    "Leave my aspiration unbroken! -- take thy form from off my door!
    Leave no symbol as a token of that lie thy soul hath spoken!
    Scarcely Al Gore then did mutter, "Other friends have flown before
    On the morrow you will leave me, as my Hopes sincerely soar."
    Quoth G. Dubya, "Never Gore"

    And so G. Dubya, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
    O'er the shoulder of Al Gore, just outside the White House door;
    And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon that is dreaming,
    And the spotlight o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor,
    And Al's soul from out that shadow, shall be lifted -- nevermore!
    Quoth the Voters, "Never Gore"
