Bay Area Probe Owner's Club Dyno Day

Thanks to BRG Racing for hosting this event and to Dan for
organizing. The intent of this page is to document some of the happenings
of dyno day. Unfortunately, I had forgotten to bring the spare batteries
and memory cards, so I was not able to capture as much as I would have
wanted. I apologize to those I may have missed. Weather was overcast
and cool in the morning, perfect dyno weather!
BRG Racing's Mustang Dynamometer MD-750 cell.
The Mustang Chassis
Dynamometer is different from the popular Dynojet Dynamometer. Check
out this article published in Chevy
High Performance magazine. In very general terms, the difference is
the Mustang will simulate "real world conditions" by adding in
aerodynamic and rolling frictional load. Because of these additional
loads, the Mustang's measured horsepower is approximately 15% less than the
Dynojet (per BRG Racing).

The "early" crowd. I got
there 0930 to find Brian warming his bottle by cranking up the heat inside his car.

The gang before the first run.
Brian was first up. His first two runs were done with no NOS, his third
with. No NOS - 151.5 hp, 142.9 ft/lb (w/15%
correction - 174.3 hp, 164.3 ft/lb). With NOS - 209.3 hp, 209.9 ft/lb (240.7 / 241.4)
Jim was next. Prior to running, the tire pressures were reduced to give
the tires wide a contact area on the rollers. Fluid levels were also checked.
The VRIS controller on Jim's car was not set properly, so power was down slightly.
Jim's KLZE numbers - 141 hp, 130 ft/lb (162 / 150)
I was next.

Going thru "tech inspection".

Strapped down.

Down on the rollers and ready to go.

My weak results. My motor is
stock except for a Hotshot CAI and Borla catback. Thats my story and I'm sticking with it! Anyway, all three
runs were EXACTLY the same which was a first for BRG. Here is a
movie taken from the office. Listen to the engine as it goes to 7250 rpms! The runs were done with the garage door down in order to not
annoy the neighbors. Movie is approximately 5.5 mb.

Antone with his 1986 300ZX turbo was next. The dyno was
showing possible engine problems, so they didn't push it.

Break before Sean's run.
Sean's Probe. The front piece was removed
so his car would make it up the ramp. The reason why the dyno was not placed in the ground was the
landowners did not want the soil disturbed because of the likely probability of soil contamination.
Preparing for Sean's heart pumping run. For his runs, they left the garage
door open. Check out these videos - Video
1 (5.8 mb), Video 2 (4 mb).
Video 2 is a clip of Sean's third run. There was interest in what the fuel pressure
was at WOT. The owner's younger (and apparently expendable) son was volunteered.
I think it was 79-80 psi. Sean recently installed a turbo and was conservative in his settings. His
numbers were 171 hp, 184 ft/lb (205 / 213).

Calvin's MX-6. Recently put back together so his
settings were also conservative. Calvin's numbers were 138.3 hp, 123.2 ft/lb (159.1 / 141.7)
And finally, a few MX-6 group pictures -
