THE DAZZLING MIRANDA S STATION BBS HOMEPAGE!

HISTORICAL VALUE ONLY.... DO NOT CALL.... BBS IS DOWN (6 FEET UNDER)

Woo! Well This is the official WWW Page for Miranda S. Station BBS. Its by no means complete and if you got here you probably called the BBS anyway. We were a Citadel based BBS located in Lynnwood, Washington, about 8 miles north of Seattle. We ran from Spring of 1986 to Fall of 1998.. a whopping 12+ years!!!!

The Miranda Story (Reader's digest version:

Miranda S Station started out life as a C64 BBS called "Smuggler's Warehouse" (get it) with a couple of disk drives which at the time was pretty "elite". The BBS was started in 1986 by Mike Smallwood (Nighthawk) and Troy Beckstrom (The Phantom Hacker) 2 next door neighbors in Bothell, WA. Soon Troy developed an interest in writing his own BBS software and so he went off to do just that. Smuggler's Warehouse went down. Sometie shortly after a "brain storm" (haha) session ensued bewtween Mike and some other friends such as Nebulon (Steve Funk), Icebreaker (Andrew Krepela), Dr Hack N Slash (??? Forget his name), Dirty Jerry (Jerry) Baub (Dave) and others and somehow the planet Uranus came up! We decided to name a bunch of BBSes after the moons of Uranus. Mike took Miranda, Steve took Ariel, Dirty Jerry took Oberon, Hack N Slash took Umbriel. The idea was they all were surface stations on the moons of Uranus. Troy by this time had a rudimentary form of his BBS written and Mike used it to start up Miranda which was run by Mike, Troy and Andrew. Ariel was run by Steve, Dave and Andrew. Umbriel, Oberon, and even a Titania S Station all had brief runs but Ariel lasted 8 years and Miranda over 12 years. Troy never liked the "chat" and "message" parts much of BBSes and liked tech talk and serious discussions. He decided to keep improving his BBS software and it eventually evolved into a commercial software andhe uses it to this day to anchor his ISP: Worldport (www.wport.cim). Andrew and Mike switched to Citadel software for Miranda (Amiga Cit, Gremcit, Citadel Plus... it varied) and Miranda was co-run by the 2 of them for 10 years until the fateful day Mike pulled the plug. Andrew (Icebreaker)can still be seen around the web and the Seattle Cit BBS scene. Mike is in good health but (no kidding) leads a somewhat hermit like existance in his trailer in Lynnwood and rarely calls out on his modem. As mentioned above Troy still operates Worldport Internet Services. Steve (Nebulon) was last seen working at a car dealer in Everett.
