The Chief Seattle Council returned from the 2001 Jamboree and we can officially declare it a huge success! The tour was a lot of fun and we saw a lot of great stuff. It's wierd to realize that, as part of our tour, we actually walked through the World Trade Center complex only 6 weeks before it was destroyed. The Jamboree was, as always, an incredible experience. We faced a lot of challenges, but in typical Scouting form, we worked through them and had a great time! Our gear trailer was on the train behind the one that caught fire in a tunnel in Baltimore. It arrived Tuesday night, but thanks to the incredible efforts of Council Chief Executive Norm Stone and the entire professional staff, when we showed up at the Jamboree site on Monday morning, waiting for us were tents, dining flies, patrol kits, sleeping bags, and ground cloths for all four troops! Utterly incredible! THANKS, Norm and all the professional staff! Every jamboree we get one day of rain, but this time there were three. Typical of Scouts, instead of sitting around complaining, within a couple of hours they were going about their business and participating in events, or doing all kinds of fun things like creating "slip and slides" in the mud. And our Scouts also discovered the value of having a GREAT set of patches. Our 6-patch jamboree set was so popular that, by the third day, there were long lines of Scouts from all over the Jamboree lining up at the entrance to our troop sites, looking to trade for our patches.
