JBM - Personal - HK USP Trigger Smoothing

This page details the steps that I have taken to smooth the triggers on my USP. I am not a gunsmith and do not guarantee any of these steps. Nothing here is an attempt to change the way the pistol operates. All work was done with 600, 1200 and 2000 grit sandpaper. Tools required for disassembly include needlenose pliers and a couple small punches (I have the Lyman set which work well). Since this was the first time I did this to a USP, some surfaces didn't really need to be done (e.g. all the trigger surfaces).

I recommend starting with the 1200 or 2000 grit sandpaper and using the 600 if required. Don't remove any metal you don't have to. The sandpaper is available at most auto parts stores. Just look in the paint section.

Disassembly of the USP is not documented here. Detailed instructions can be found at The Unofficial Heckler & Koch Home Page. Just follow the link near the bottom of the page.

ENSURE THAT THE PISTOL IS UNLOADED BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS!

I have done this procedure to all of my USP (compact and full size) and there is a noticable improvement. If you have any questions, you can email me at JBM.

I have broken this page into a series of eleven pages. Use the menu at the bottom of the page to navigate through the various sections.
