saturday... cannon beach... sunshine... 65... steady onshore winds 4-7k... it just can't get any better than this for a bunch of grinning fighter pilots.

Jefe returns   whoa!... yes it can get better... the fat kid came out of retirement and was on the beach bright and early to fly with us... those of you who are followers of nfka's society column will remember that he disappeared 13 months ago about halfway through his term as nfka president... after having scandalized everyone of good taste he could find locally, he escaped to mexico with nfka's checkbook and credit cards... finally jeff figured that the statutes of limitations had run out and we've all had enough hornitos to actually miss him... so, he's back in the fold... and we're glad.

so there we were... a bunch of kids basking in the bright northwest sunshine

  and flying fighters...

pope tom flew a nice little kite of a new design he is perfecting to knock our socks off at the world cup...

sir richard (clutter) flew his ugly old hellohoney in between doing his normal abnormal behavior and grabbing any unsuspecting tourists passing by and sticking a fighter in their hands...

king brian brought his usual good spirits and nfka's official scoring clipboard making up for heidi's failure to show up and faithfully fulfill his queenly duties of queenship... can you spell abdication?

jerry came all the way up from arizona and remembered to bring his wife, which goes to show he's not too old yet and that it's officially spring and the snowbirds are once again flocking north...

Rich, Dennis, Jerry, Jeff, Chuck L.   Tom, Chuck D., Katrina, ? aaaargh!

ed2 came ready to fight like a new kid on the playground staking claim to his part of the beach, so beware all you playground bullies, he has absolutely no fear...

Ed Haynes, Chuck L.

chuckie.d provided a great show and tell by sharing photos of the chinese kite exhibit currently at the portland art museum and his design for a whole new way of organizing a kitebox, including painstakingly recording and archiving important data for each kite... which is very important if your name is chuck...

and, speaking of chucks... chuck came to defend his monthly nfka championship... his on-going win streak has been getting pretty boring for the rest of us, but unfortunately he shows no sign of weakening...

and i was there to play inflatable punching bag for all of them...

9 fliers... round robin competition in the afternoon... many great points were flown... several of them even sphincter-clenching...

and at the end:    ( * )

many grins shared making the 4 hour one-way drive well worth the effort... at least for this rascal.

that's it... sure feels good to fly in the sunshine again.
