Descendants of Johnson Harvey WICKS

 

  1. Johnson Harvey WICKS (73) married Sarah VINCEN OR VINCENT (79). Both born KY. (Source George Owen "Peter" WICKS marriage license) The names of Peter's parent's were difficult to read, (Peter’s father’s name may have been John Harry.)
  2. George Owen "Peter" WICKS

Peter (George Owen according to Sallie BUNTON WICKS' obituary) was born in March 1864 St Clair Co, IL. He married Sarah E. BUNTON (11), daughter of Henry W. BUNTON SR (20) and Mary C. CHARLES (39), on 12 June 1888 Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, Hamilton Co, IL. It was said by Peter and Sallie's son, Frank "Pedro or Peter" WICKS, that Peter met Sallie while working for the railroad. Later Peter was known as a carpenter, well digger and grave digger. He died on 26 April 1916 Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, Hamilton, IL, at age 52 from a heart ailment. He is buried at the Oddfellows Cemetery, Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, IL.

 He was active in the Independent Order of Oddfellows. Following is a resolution and words of sympathy made by the organization after his death

"….. Be it resolved that we extend to Brother WICKS’ family our heartfelt sympathy in this their sad hour of bereavement. Be it Resolved -- that these resolutions be spread on the records of this lodge; that a copy be presented to the bereaved family and that they be published in the Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, Echo. Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, Lodge no 486, I.O.O.F. John T. WOOD, John C. STINSTON, B.F. WHITTED, committee. Source: Estelle KUNDERT WICKS (has copy)..

Whereas: In His infinite wisdom it has pleased the Divine Creator to remove from our mist our dearly beloved brother, Peter WICKS; that Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, Lodge No. 486, Independent Order of Oddfellows has thereby lost one of its most faithful members. He Be it resolved -- that we take this means of expressing our esteem for our departed brother. Since we so deeply feel his loss as a brother, how far more deep the lost to his family may seem we can only surmise".

Peter appears as head of the family on the 1900 and 1910 soundex of Hamilton Co IL. 1870 and 1880 census of Hamilton Co. IL. 1910 census shows 9 children born but only 7 living. In 1998, I received a letter from David WICKS, the son of Frank WICKS. Frank died a few months ago and David found a Bible among his belongs that listed the two girls that passed away as the children, Mary Alice and Ollie were the two that Peter (George Owen) WICKS and Sallie (BUNTON) WICKS lost.

1. Albert3 "Al" WICKS (24) Born before 1892 Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, Hamilton, IL. He may be the baby pictured with Sarah and Peter we have. (copy acquired Sep 1994, Centralia, WA from Estella KUNDERT WICKS). He died Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, Hamilton Co, IL. buried Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, IL. . His (According to Estelle (Mrs. Owen) WICKS, last known residence was Detroit, Michigan where he worked in a creamery. He never married and didn't want his brothers to marry because he felt it would stop them from getting a good education. Could this be the same person as the William A. WICKS listed on the soundex? Estelle gave us the names of both William and Albert, so it's probably not the same person. Al wanted to go overseas and serve in the military, but he never was able to accomplish his goal.

 

2. William A.3 WICKS was born in February 1892 Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, Hamilton Co, IL. He appeared on the (13) 1900 Soundex, Hamilton Co IL. Family tradition his birth took place in Dahlgren, Hamilton Co. This MAY be the Al WICKS listed above. 

3. Myrtle3 WICKS (14) was born in May 1894 Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, Hamilton, IL. She appeared on the 1900 soundex of Hamilton Co IL. 

4. Iva3 WICKS (12) was born in March 1898 Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, Hamilton Co, IL.

Family tradition says the entire family was born and reared in Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, Hamilton Co, IL. Iva appeared on the 1900, 1910, 1920 census Hamilton Co, IL. In 1920 Iva WICKS DOVE, age 21 was living with her mother Sallie WICKS with her child, brothers George, age 19, Owen age 16, Flossie, Age 14 and Nana Age 9. (1920 - 142 - 48 - 3 - 45). 

5. George Wallace3 WICKS (1) was born 7 Aug 1900 Dahlgren, Hamilton Co. He was the son of Peter and Sallie BUNTON WICKS. He married Viola Elizabeth SIMONS (2), daughter of Joseph Perry SIMONS (6) and Ida M. ELEY (7), on 7 December 1929 DuPont, Pierce Co, Co, WA.

They were married by a Rev. BARNES. Witnesses Joe WEBB and Alma BODY (became Alma WEBB) (Found written in Bible of Alan S. WICKS that was given to him by his parents, George and Viola WICKS on Dec 25, 1952.) George Wallace WICKS died 3 Sep 1960 at age 60, as the result of an auto accident near Baker Oregon.: Obituary shows that he left sons: Alan WICKS at home and Dennis WICKS of U.S. Navy; 2 brothers, Owen WICKS of Centralia, WA and Frank WICKS of Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, (IL); 4 sisters, Flossie GARRISON of Mt. Vernon (IL) Myrtle MUSE of Burbank, California, Iva DOVE of Denison (Texas?) and Neva (should have been Nana) SIMONS of Tacoma, WA. Interred Tacoma, WA. He was buried at the New Tacoma Cemetery, Tacoma, WA. (Obituary from The Times-Leader, Hamilton Co; IL)

 

a) Dennis Gene4 WICKS (3) was born on 30 March 1939 in Tacoma, Pierce Co, WA. He lived in Nisqually , Federal Way and Dollof Lake, and Tacoma WA as a child. He served in the United States Navy as an aviation electronics technician on an the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Ranger. He was married first to Linda Grace SAVOLA (9), daughter of Edward George"Mike" SAVOLA (21) and Grace ENNIS (22), on 31 December 1964 Seattle, King, WA. He received his B.A. in business from the University of WA. He lived in Seattle, King Co WA and Stamford, CN. He currently resides in Champaign, IL.
    1. Pamela Lorraine5 WICKS (8) She was born on 2 October 1967 Seattle, King Co, WA.
    2. Lynette Yvonne5 WICKS (10) She was born on 24 July 1969 Seattle, King Co, WA. Married Eric BLOYD. They have a son, Satchel, age two.

On 21 May 1995 Dennis married Joyce Carroll MCELROY (70) in Champaign Co, IL. Joyce also has children, Kimberly Eileen (PASSICK) Blum, (son Jonny), of Champaign, IL. Wesley James PASSICK (married Angela CASWELL), of Evansville, IN, children Alisha and Jessica. and .another child is due in June of 1999, and Janell Elizabeth (PASSICK) ROBISCH, (md Christopher Alan ROBISCH of Bloomfield, NJ.

b) Alan Stuart4 WICKS was born on 5 October 1946 Tacoma, Pierce Co, WA. (4) I, (Joyce WICKS) Found a Certificate of promotion in Bible of Alan WICKS that states: "Alan Stuart WICKS has been promoted on the 2nd day of October, 1955 from the Primary Department of the Little Brown Church Sunday School to the Junior Department." Signed by Mrs. Nellie Jean Blackburn, School Superintendent; Henry G. Dietz, Minister and Mrs. Virginia Bowen, Teacher. . He and Valerie Irene VANEK (64) were married on 3 June 1973 Tacoma, Pierce Co, WA. The ceremony was performed outdoors at Point Defiance Park. They lived in 1997 in Kennewick, WA. They lived in WA, CA and Mexico in the past. Their children are:

 

(1) Marion Olivia Estella5 WICKS (65) was born on 30 April 1975.

 

(2) Kristopher George Robert5 WICKS (66) was born on 26 June 1978.

 

(3) Elizabeth Viola Rebecca5 WICKS (67) was born on 20 September 1982.

 

(4) Peter Andrew David5 WICKS (68) was born on 23 February 1986.

 

(5) Andrew Michael David5 WICKS (69) was born on 30 September 1990.

 

6. Owen C.3 WICKS (23) was born on 2 February 1903 Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, Hamilton, IL. He was a teacher of math and economics at Centralia Community College, Centralia, WA.. He His name was changed from Charles Owen WICKS to Owen Charles WICKS at an early age. .. He married Estelle KUNDERT (26), daughter of Karl KUNDERT (27) and a Ms. KAISER (29), on 3 April 1929. He died in Centralia, Lewis Co, WA. Their children are:

 

a) Elliot KUNDERT4 WICKS (37) of Washington, D.C.

 

b) Alicia KUNDERT4 WICKS (38) of Centralia, WA.

 

7. Flossie3 WICKS (15) was born circa 1906 Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, Hamilton, IL She appeared on the 1910 soundex of Hamilton Co IL.

 

8. Frank B (Pete, Pedro).3 WICKS was (16) born on 14 April 1908 Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, Hamilton, IL. He appeared on the 1910 Census of Hamilton Co, IL. He lived Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, IL. . He married Nellie LOWRY (59) on 2 March 1933. He died on 11 May 1997 Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, Hamilton, IL, at age 89.

b) David F.4 WICKS (61) He married Cynthia (--?--) (76). He lived on 13 April 1995 Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, IL 62828

 

c) Elinor Jean4 WICKS (78) was born in 1934 Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, IL. She died in 1944 Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, Hamilton, IL.

 

d) William Owen4 WICKS (77) was born in 1935 Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, ?, Hamilton, IL. He died in 1935.

 

9. Nana3 WICKS (25) was born on 5 September 1910 Dahlgren, Hamilton Co, IL. (Birth date from Soc. Security Death Benefit Record.) She married Jesse SIMONS, brother of Viola SIMONS WICKS. Residence was in Otis, Oregon. She was ill for much of her life, but she and Jesse loved to travel and camp. They had no children. She died in September 1987 Lincoln City, Oregon of a mastoid infection (per Estella WICKS). The place of her burial is unknown as of this time. (1999).
