SpamCop Tool

SpamCop Tool is a utility integrated with Apple's Mail application and SpamCop.net. It is used to report and process junk mail.

Usage

The tool's interface consists of a small window with two buttons: Forward Now and Open URLs:

Forward Now
This button forwards selected junk mail messages in your Apple Mail application to SpamCop.net. Depending on preferences Apple Mail or the UNIX mail command "mail -E -s" is used to forwarde the junk mail messages.

Using Apple Mail allows more then one message to be forwarded at one time and SpamCop.net responds with more then one URL per reply for final submittal.

Open URLs
After forwarding several junk mail messages to SpamCop.net, they will respond with messages which contain URLs final submittal. This button will parse these messages for the URLs and open them in the default web browser.
To process the URLs select these messages and click the Open URLs button.

Preferences

The tool is configured by using the Preferences menu item.

SpamCop Reporting Address This is the address provided by SpamCop.net

Important: SpamCop Tool will not work if it does not have SpamCop reporting email address.

URLs To Open In Browser The number of URLs the application will open in your browser at one time.
Watch SpamCop Folder Check this box if the application should show a dialog box when messages from SpamCop.net have been received. Specify the account and mailbox name which the application should monitor for messages from SpamCop.net.
Watch Junk Mail Folder Check this box if the application should show a dialog box when junk mail messages have been received. Checking the Forward Silently box allows the application to forward the messages without a dialog box. Specify the account and mailbox name which the application should monitor for junk mail messages.

Note: Make sure the message being forwarded really is junk mail.

Watch Interval Every so many minutes the watch folders will be checked. Minimum is ten minutes.
Report Spam Report spam with Apple's Mail application or use the UNIX mail command.

Important: When using the UNIX mail command port 25 may not be blocked or otherwise filtered. If your ISP or network administrator blocks port 25 for outbound connections you may have to use Apple Mail.
