FURNITURE IN THE PUBLIC
by
Lucia S. Williams
Do you enjoy going to movies, restaurants, theaters, concerts, and the like? Many Americans cannot do these commonplace
things. Why, you ask? Because they are fat! Fat people are denied these and many other pleasures because of seat
sizes. Public seating does not take into consideration a person's size--only how many seats can be put into a building
to sell the most tickets to make the biggest profit per event. This has got to change. Why are millions of fat
Americans being cheated this way? Fat people demand what they have been denied.
Fat people cannot use the usual safety devices that are provided in automobiles
and airplanes. Seat belts provided in cars and on planes are not long enough. The air lines do provide an extender,
if asked for. Fat people have a right to be safe while driving. So far they have been denied this. It is very hard,
if not impossible, to find seat belt extensions for different car makes. Why??
Public restrooms seem to be made for only one size of person. Why?? Fat people have the need of public restrooms
like everyone else. We think this should change.
In many stores and public places like subways and amusement parks, you must first go through a turnstyle in order
to enter or exit. This discriminates against fat people. Many of us must try to find another way to enter. This
is unnecessary and humiliating. There must be a better way to control traffic.
