Scrabble                                                                          (C) Susan Mason 2001

I play Scrabble
Deep into the night
Against my computer
Against myself
Against my better judgment.

I play Scrabble
Because I have words
Coursing through my brain
Clamoring to be heard,
Seen, and understood.

I play Scrabble
So that lonely words
Have a place to be seen,
If not heard…
Read, though not held.

I play Scrabble
Because I find the random tiles
Making more sense
Than the deliberate silence
Which invades my night’s rest.
