| Minnesota, the 32nd state admitted to the union, officially
celebrated its 150th anniversary on May 11, 2008. But the Sesquicentennial
is a yearlong, statewide celebration commemorating Minnesota's heritage
while looking forward to a thriving, innovative future.
Many parts of Minnesota became hemecht (home) to Luxembourg immigrants. The first settlers arrived in the 1850's and settled in the counties of Stearns, Winona, Scott, Wabasha, Dakota, Ramsey, Houston, Hennepin, Brown, Polk and Blue Earth.
