1893 Advertising poster for the Red Star Line.

For many Luxembourgers the port of departure from Europe was Antwerp (Anvers in French and Antwerpen in Flemish). Located on the Scheldt River in Belgium, Antwerp was the closest port to landlocked Luxembourg.

The Derulle-Wigreux & Sons travel agency in Luxembourg City booked passage for many departing Luxembourgers in the nineteenth century, who often sailed on Red Star Line vessels.

Do you have any old Red Star Line objects (postcards, trunks, diaries, etc.)? Is there a travel story in your family of an ancestor who left for the New World with the Red Star Line? A new museum about the Line is scheduled to open in 2012. Staff would like to hear from you as they prepare to launch!
