Here is the low down on the Shindig plans as of May 11, 2003.

Doors will officially open Saturday at 2 pm. Some of us will be doing some setup work on Friday evening, 8 pm. If you need to do more setup on Saturday, we will start that at 1 pm.

We have definitely decided on a potluck for our food needs. The food theme is a mix of 'frontier' style food and asian dishes. There is a full kitchen on site for anything that needs cooking/heating. Other supplies we need are paper plates, cups, napkins and plastic forks. Feel free to bring takeout from somewhere if you don't want to cook.

We will also get a permit for alcohol. One person so far has volunteered to do some mixed drinks. Feel free to bring your own or some to share. There will be non-alcoholic options available. Don't even think about getting drunk and driving or we'll hand you over to the Reavers.

The dance is still planned for the evening. We have not had any luck with a band, so we will probably be using the stereo system. We are looking for bluesy, folksy stuff, but we will also accept celtic style or anything else that seems to fit the Firefly atmosphere. Feel free to bring along some CD's to play.

There will definitely be a marathon of episode watching. At this point, we are going to have the marathon in a separate room, so it will probably run all day. We definitely have the gag reel. We will try to make sure everyone has a chance to see it.

Now that we have the date and place, we have decided to donate food to a local foodbank, Northwest Helpline. There will be a bin available for items, and a box for cash donations. Suggested food items are dry and canned goods such as cereal, peanut butter, soups, etc.

In addition to the bin and box, we are having a silent auction. We have some nice versions of the Browncoat handbook, possibly some art, and are working on a few other things.. If you have suggestions, or items you wish to donate, please post on the Firefly messages boards or send an email to either Lin or Mnot.

Costumes of a Firefly nature will definitely be worn by a few people. Feel free to dress up or not, as the whim takes you. If you want to change at the hall, there is space to do so. If you would like to rent something to meet your needs, there is a nice shop in Bellevue called A Masquerade. Their website is www.amasquerade.com. There are some southern-style ballgowns available, as well as a variety of other items. Prices are quite reasonable.

We decided to send invitation letters to the cast of Firefly, as well as Mr. Whedon and Mr. Minear. Whether anyone will come, or even if they will get the letters in time is completely unknown. At this, time, none of them has responded, so I don't think we can expect anyone.

One of our Shindigers pointed out that Seattle has it's very own Firefly restaurant in Queen Anne. They don't have a website, but their address is: 2128 Queen Anne Ave. N., Seattle and the phone number is: 206-694-0055
Here is a link to a review of their food:

We are also open to suggestions for other activities.

For people who plan to stay for a couple of days, here are a few suggestions for things to do in Seattle:

For a Chinese/Asian theme:

Uwajimaya is a large asian store in Chinatown. It carries groceries and other items such as clothes and furniture. Chinatown itself has many interesting stores and good restaurants. Dim Sum is a style of meal where the waitstaff brings a variety of dishes around and you choose what you want to eat.

The Seattle Asian Art Museum has many fascinating artifacts.

Judy Fu's Snappy Dragon is an excellent chinese restaurant.

Non-asian activities:

The Woodland Park Zoo is always fun. When it's cold, be sure to visit the tropical rainforest.

The Pacific Science Center is located in the Seattle Center and both are good places to hang out.

The Seattle Waterfront includes the famous Ye Olde Curiousity Shop, the Seattle Aquarium and many shops.

Pike Place Market has several levels to explore, don't be fooled by the food on the top level. There are also a variety of other interesting shops.
